The pains of living online.

So the London Art Fair has begun and, oh how I wish I could go. There are so many amazing pieces there and viewing them secondhand via photographs rarely does them justice. One of the artists I am particularly wishing to see is one Paul Gayler, who has some pieces up at the Abbey Walk Gallery. I didn't even know about this person until recently but their art is breathtaking; I'd honestly thought it was a photomanip when I first saw their stuff.

"ubiquitous"
Look! Look at it! Aaaah!

Turns out it was oil on canvas! What's more, ALL of the pieces are like this. They have a wonderful play of light and dark contrast, color and monochrome, and all with that inherent glowing softness that naturally comes with oil paints. The mix of things in the works itself is almost like an artistic interpretation of a modern art gallery (or perhaps Lost Angles for cartoon fans). They're chaotic yet harmonious and the attention to detail is very impressive, like it's alive. It's hard to see it anywhere other than a gallery, or perhaps on some rich connoisseur's wall somewhere in the fancier part of town.

It's disappointing, then, that it's hard to find much of the artist online. There seem to be entries here and there, as well as other sites and people praising his work (ahem), but it seems as though he's firmly in the realm of the physical. If he does have a profile somewhere, I hope to find it someday and you can fully expect that I will gleefully devour any content the artist shares. For you lucky folk who get to see his work in the flesh, savor it!

bzzzz

I haven't posted any of my art on here outside my profile bird, so here's a cazador I painted a while back for practice. I had no idea insects were so fun to do! I may just draw more of them.

Blending Palettes

This is a really useful little site/tool for getting those tricky in-between color tones when you're trying to blend stuff together. Just pick 2 colors, how many midpoint shades you want between them, and click blend. You'll never again wonder what the hex value for that one shade of purple is between blue and yellow ever again! (Turns out it's #704DC2, ha!)

LAF and ALAC 2015

Only a couple weeks until Art Los Angeles Contemporary and the London Art Fair! If anyone in Los Angeles or London wants to prepare for it, or if anyone wants to visit for the galleries, now's the time to start planning. ALAC 2015 runs from the 29th of this month to the 1st of February, and LAF goes from the 21st to the 25th of this month.

In the meantime, the LA Art Show and photo la are still going and will end next Monday on January 19th for people in the Los Angeles area. I wish I could go. Make sure you bring some mittens; it's still chilly out!

Sketch Exchange

Neat! Here's a little Flash-based sketch site. You can draw something, then exchange it with others. The drawing tool is limited, but it's a fun way to practice! Check it out!

Blog Layout

If anyone has suggestions for the blog's layout and CSS, I welcome ideas. I do, for the most part, wish to keep the colors simple and the interface minimal. It is all about the content in the posts, after all. I confess I am a bit rusty with xhtml/CSS, but can easily switch things around as needed. If the layout is difficult for you to read, navigate, or understand, please contact me in some way and let me know!

I do so enjoy procrastination!

You know, I have wanted to do something like this blog for the longest time, but only actually acted upon the urge recently. I'd decided what I wanted to do upon the creation of my Tumblr but procrastination took hold once again. Finally getting off of my lazy butt, my Google+ account and this blog are all up and running! Thank goodness for queues.

"But what is this blog?" you ask? A means to spread content! I make things (albeit slowly and in the laziest way imaginable) and know what a pain it can be to get your name out there. Since I love art and such and do care about the community, I thought to myself, "Why not make a promotional space? Then lots of people would benefit!" Best of all, I'm doing this for fun. Promotion that doesn't cost a dime. It's completely free!

Of course, there will also be my own nonsense here, from creations to ramblings, so it won't be all promotions all the time. Just most of the time. I'm hoping to post at least 1 other content creator per day, as well as entertain with an occasional online song-and-dance for you all. I'll be sure to wear my most dapper hat.

That said, all art I post will include the artist's name and/or username, as well as a link to their art galleries. Any games or game content will have the creators' names (/team name) included, and a link to either the game itself or the game's site, depending on the circumstances. If ANY content creators object to their work being displayed here, I urge them to contact me; if all checks out, it will be removed. On the other hand, if you'd like your work displayed here, let me know! I love seeing new artists, designers, and all you creative people out there. I refill the queue weekly, so you may not see your suggestion right away but if I say it'll be displayed, it shall be so!

So here's hoping the blog takes off! The more interest it gets, the more people will see your content, the more cool stuff you will get to see, and the more effective of a boost it will be for creators having trouble getting some attention. If you are interested, I can also be found on Twitter at https://twitter.com/thehappycorvid where I retweet art and other things. I also follow back!
